Role Summary
Our Team
Cigna is expanding its deployment of analytics across the business as we
fulfill our mission to help the people we serve improve their health, well-
being and sense of security. Cigna's Analytics Department is a central,
shared research and analytics service that enables fact-based decision making
to enable our customer-centric strategy. As such, we identify opportunities,
address problems, and answer questions with credible research and
methodologies. Our 5 core competencies and scope of services are:
The Role
The primary responsibility is to utilize research and analytics to enable
Cigna's corporate healthcare delivery system strategy. As such, the person is
to lead the research and analytics partnership with Cigna's Total Health and
Network, Pharmacy, and Disability Departments to define, scope, prioritize,
and directly lead the execution of analytic research and development efforts.
Strategy
The Director is to define, lead, and manage customer insights to enable
Cigna's Segment strategies and tactical execution in the business operations.
The Director is to partner with senior management to:
Responsibilities include the need to lead stakeholders to influence and shape
corporate and delivery system strategy. This requires a deep partnership with
internal stakeholders including Product and Operations to implement novel
ideas that will improve their value proposition and strengthen our market
proof points and to influence and contribute to their strategic plans and
priorities. This requires persuading organizational leaders (CMO, Product and
Operations Directors, etc) who may have different baseline priorities on the
value of changes to their plans. Also requires a deep partnership with
external stakeholders including consultants, physician groups and hospitals,
employer clients.
The Director is also responsible for creating the research and analytics
strategic roadmap (addressing people, process, and technology) to enable the
overall corporate strategy and efficiently and effectively execute on the
necessary research and analytics. This requires obtaining agreement and
support from business partners to support investments. This also requires
development and execution of the people strategy” that addresses recruitment,
staff development, motivation, retention, and continuous improvement efforts.
On behalf of the business, the Director has accountability to develop business
requirements, map business goals to necessary capabilities, identify gaps, and
propose solutions to drive the development and improvement of data, data
systems, and software needed to support the function. Core areas include:
Research and Analytics
Research and analytics requires a variety of quantitative and qualitative
research and analytic competencies. These include data gathering (via
surveys, customer interviews, focus groups, literature searches), and data
analyzes (conjoint analysis, big data” statistical analysis and modeling).
Some of the insights research and analytics will be under the direct
leadership of the Director (either by staff scientists or vendors). The
person in this position will be responsible to lead all delivery system
research and analytics. These responsibilities include:
Collaborations
This role will be highly-matrixed and the Director will partner with other
research groups (Predictive Modeling and Data Mining Center of Excellence) and
othercollaboration partners include Total Health and Network, Marketing,
Business Segments, Product, Finance, and Information Management/Information
Technology.
The person will also be responsible for collaborations with Cigna
International, specifically to understand how best practices, models and
potentially resources can be shared across the enterprise. This includes
facilitating regular collaboration forums between Cigna US and International
research and analytical resources to share work and investigate areas of
opportunity and best practices.
